So I am just gonna start by saying I may be losing my mind! I just launched my blog 2 days ago and yet here I am jumping into the One Room Challenge…..tackling my home office makeover over the next 6 weeks.
If you aren’t familiar with the One Room Challenge, I will briefly break it down for you. Calling It Home hosts a One Room Challenge two times a year, one in April and the other in October. Each round she invites 20 design bloggers to take on the challenge of making over their space in six weeks. Every Wednesday, the designers will post their updates and processes….but what is really cool is that she also invites guest bloggers to link up their own One Room Challenge Makeovers, which is what I will be doing! So not only do I get to share this challenge with you, I also get to share it with other readers from her site through the link up.
So I just read about this challenge yesterday, no joke (I know, crazy right?)! So after moving some things around on my editorial calendar I decided this would be a great opportunity to force myself to tackle a room makeover I have been putting off.
So I have chosen my home office. Right after I moved into the new house, I knew this would be one of the first major projects I would want to tackle. I am pretty sure I spend most of my time at home in my office. With the combination of my day-to-day job and getting this blog up and running I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent in my home office in the last month. My office was one of my favorite rooms at my old house. I had it set up just the way I liked it, it was bright and airy, organized, and just made me happy to work in it everyday.
Fast forward to the new house…..my office is in room upstairs in the back corner of the house, with the tiniest window, with 2-toned walls (and I’m not talking cool 2-toned walls, folks). I am pretty sure the previous owners NEVER used this room. They actually almost forgot to show it to me when I first toured the house!
So my choices were to take the other spare room upstairs, which I had a vision for an amazing guest room, or turn my dining room into my office. I know it’s not traditional, but I can count on 2 hands the number of times I have actually used a dining room in my 8 years of owning a home. It is usually where I hang up my laundry to dry if I’m being honest, and I have plenty of room in my kitchen area for a long farmhouse table in case I need space. I have seen a lot of people do this in the past year or so, and I honestly think it’s a great idea, because I am currently wasting the area right now because I never use it.
So after all that info, here is my home office inspiration board. I think reflects my style very well. Over the years I have defined my style as rustic modern with a little french country thrown in the mix, which is what I am hoping to accomplish here.
So get ready to follow along! Every Wednesday for the next 6 weeks I will post an update to my makeover status and hopefully some fun DIY projects!
Be sure to stop by the challenge here to check out some of the other makeovers in progress!
Here’s to jumping right in!

Love your plan for this room Holly and cannot wait to see how it turns out! You’re going to love having a designated space to work and I’m sure it will be nothing short of amazing. The mirror is so beautiful I have been swooning away at it for our daughters room so I can’t wait to see how it looks in the space.
Thanks! Yea, I am looking forward to it. Can’t believe I decided to do it, but excited for sure! Hopefully I can make it come together like I am visioning it!
Way to go Holly! I am so excited for you to be in the One Room Challenge! I can’t wait to see what you do with this room- I’m excited to follow along!
Thanks Beth! I may be way in over my head, but hopefully not! I think it’s going to be fun. Can’t wait to hopefully share some fun DIYs!
Oh how fun! I have always wanted to jump onboard one of these challenges, but it can take me a year to update a room in our house! ha! I think I’d panic over a month. I love your pinboard and can’t wait to see what you all do!

Thank you, Meredith! Yea, I think I have lost my mind jumping in so soon! lol I think it will be fun though! Why not?!
Sometimes you have to change spaces that work best for your life, which is what is so great about home decorating. It is supposed to be uniquely you! I really love the rug, desk, and chair that you have on your inspiration board. They are calming, cohesive, and will likely make your space feel bigger and airy!
Thank you so much! Yes, I hope it turns out the way I envision. I think I will be much happier working in it since it is brighter than my current home office which is up in a corner of the house!
Loved looking at your inspiration for your office. We are doing a home office for our business, as well, so we will be following along! Its our first ORC, too:) Nothing like diving right in!
Oh yay!! So glad someone else is just deciding to dive right in! I may be a little crazy for doing it, but I will definitely get me to complete it! I will pop over and check out yours!!
