What is Greige

Greige is a mix between the colors gray and beige. They can be lighter or darker and more gray or more beige depending on the mixture. Greige has become very popular among interior designers throughout the years and makes for a beautiful neutral color that works for all home styles.

For everyone that felt like gray was too cool and beige was too warm or yellow, say hello to your new favorite color….greige!

Favorite Painting Tools:

Why Should I Choose Greige Paint

First, the perfect shade of greige is the best backdrop for your home decor and furnishings. They don’t come off too cool or yellow and compliment most home decor and accents very well.

Second, the are very popular and still a very “in” color! If you plan to sell your house anytime soon you can’t go wrong painting your walls a beautiful shade of greige.

Lastly, your greige paint choices can either give you a calm subtle look with a lighter shade or you can go bolder with a darker shade. They are so versatile and don’t disappoint.

Best Greige Paint Colors by Sherwin Williams

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray – one of Sherwin William’s most popular colors, Agreeable Gray tends to lean more towards the lighter gray colors and tends to work very well with almost anything you would like to pair with it.

Agreeable Gray has a LRV of 60 which means that it reflects a pretty good amount of light. Sherwin Williams puts it in its light category. Even though it is in the “light” category, it is still considered warm light paint color. This is the color that I have used in my son’s room as well as the spare bedroom upstairs and seems to pair well with anything I put against it.

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray (my personal favorite) – Mindful Gray is considered more of a warmer/darker gray on Sherwin Williams color charts. To me, this color is one of my favorites due to the fact that it can make any room feel warm and cozy without making it seem too dark.

Mindful Gray has a LRV of 48 which means it doesn’t reflect as much light as Agreeable Gray, but still reflects a good amount of light. One of my favorite places to use Mindful Gray is in dining rooms or as an accent wall or feature in a main room.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray – Repose Gray is another very popular gray color for Sherwin Williams. It has more gray in it than beige so will a lot of times come off more on the gray side and some even say in certain lights it can have a bit of a purple undertone.

The LRV of Repose Gray is 58 which means it does reflect a good amount of light and is considered more on the light medium side of the color wheel.

Sherwin Williams Worldly Gray – Worldly Gray is a very rich greige color with a hint of a green undertone. These green undertones won’t always show, but you will need to know that certain other colors when combined with Worldly Gray it can bring out the green undertone.

The LRV of Worldly Gray is 58 which means it has the same reflection of light as Repose Gray.

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige – like the name, Accessible Beige leans more on the beige side even though it is still considered a greige paint color. The small touch of gray in the color makes it come off warm and gray enough to make it not come off brown.

The LRV of Accessible Beige is 58 and reflects a good amount of light. It is not as popular as Mindful Gray or Repose Gray, but still a great color option for your home.

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige

Sherwin Williams Colonnade Gray – the opposite as Accessible Beige, Colonnade Gray is more gray than beige but still a true greige color.

Considered a light medium shade, Colonnade Gray has a LRV of 53 and is great anywhere that you need/want a great medium shade without making the room look too dark.

How to Choose the Perfect Greige Paint Colors

  1. Get Samples – Not sure which greige paint color is going to be the best for your home? There is a company called Samplize that sells 12×12 stick on paint squares that you can just peel and stick to the wall! One thing I love about Samplize is that you can easily peel and stick and peel off when you are done without worrying about messing up you wall or current paint. The squares are made of real paint which will let you truly see what the color will look like in your home. You will be able to see it in different light and rooms to be able to make the best decision for your home. You can get free shipping and $5 off your first order, which is basically getting one free square!
  2. Know you undertones – one part of picking a paint color that is very important is knowing your undertones. Undertones play an important in how your paint color looks in your home. Everything from the light bulbs you use to what direction your room faces can change the way the color looks. Do you research on these things before fully deciding on a color for your room.
  3. Understand your LRV (Light Reflective Value) – I have shared all of the LRVs for the greige paints in this post so be sure to take that into account when choosing your final color. LRV ranges from 1-100 with 70 – 90 reflecting a lot of light. The lower the LRV the darker the room will feel due to less light being bounced off the walls.
  4. Lighten the color – if you have found the perfect shade but still feel like it needs to be lighter, know you can lighten up any paint color. You can ask the associate to lighten up the color by 25% or 50%.
  5. Check out Pinterest – if you’re looking for photos of the colors in real spaces, check out Pinterest. Yes, I said to check out Pinterest! It really is a great option when trying to decide between colors.
